Longyan Prefecture is situatted in Western Fujian Province, it is bou
nd on the east by Ximen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou, south by Chaoshan, Guangdong Pr
ovince, west by Gan zhou, Jiangxi Province and north by Sanming City. It is not
only a hinterland of coastal open areas, but also the forward of inland. It is t
he nearest mining port and forest Zone in southeast China, as well as the commun
ications centre and collecting & distrbuting centtre of the border areas of Fuji
an, Guangdong and Jianxi Provinces. After many years developing, Longyan Prefect
ure has become one of the important rear-areas of coastal open areas and transit
ional belt & economic technical corridor between coastal open areas and inland.
Longyan Prefecture covers an area of 19,400 square kilometers with p
opulation fo more than 2.7 million. There are three hundred thousand population
of overseas Chinese. Hongkong and Macao compatriots in Longyan prefecture. At pr
esent, Longyan, Zhnagping Cities, Changting, Yongding, Shanghang, Wuping, and Li
anceng Counties are under the jurisdiction of Longyan Prefecture. And lOngyan Ci
ty is the location of Longyan Prefecture Administration Office.
Longyan prefecture is located in the subtropics zone, belonging with su
btropical maritine monsoon climate. The annual average temperature is 18-20¡æ an
d frost-free period is 233-362 days per year. The weather is warm in winter and
cool in summer. With abundant rainfall and delightful weather in all seasons Lon
gyan Prefecture is very conductive to the development of main ecological agricul
ture and of various commodities for export.
