Mindong is a place with vast sea area
and suitable for sea farming. Especially in the 1990s, municipal party
committee and municipal government made strategic arrangement
“to
develop blue industry and construct marine Mindong" and marine
industry has been put on the new track of quick development. In 2000,
aquatic products covered 41.3% of the total output value of agriculture in
Ningde. With an exporting value of USD 82,170,000 and an annual net income
exceeding RMB 3,500 for local fishermen, an integrated industrial base of
scientific research, production, circulation and sale and a complete set
of industrial system have been tentatively formed. In 2000, the
cultivation output exceeded the fishing output for the first time and
adjustment of industrial structure was realized.
Great achievements have been made in
I. The rapid development of the
industrialized projects of yellow croakers with cages
of yellow croaker have reached more than 300,000 and fishponds covered 667
hectares and annual fries amounted to more than 3,000 million and the
nation's largest sea farming cage base and the largest fry breeding and
cultivation base formed.
II. Algal culture project with
cultivation area of 4,600 hectares.
III. Shellfish culture projects
of hanging oyster, razor clam and “Erdu”
blood clam covering a cultivation area of 15,000 hectares.
During the twenty years, new
variety and technology of aquaculture are springing up. Prawns, freshwater
eels and yellow croakers have shown their special prowess. Culture
industry of razor clam, hanging oyster, floating laver abalone culture in
cages, fish culture in nets, industrial culture and natural culture in
enclosure, etc are carried out with fresh vigor.
Culture waters has been constantly expanded and exploited and “marine
garden" is taking shape. Aquaculture industry serves as the
springboard of shaking off poverty and becoming better off for coastal
fishing areas and 370,000 people are directly and indirectly engaged in
it. There is a total investment of 4.5 billion Yuan, annual output value
of 2 billion Yuan and personal average income of more than 4000 Yuan.
There are 12,372 automobile
fishing vessels with a horsepower of 210,700 W and 299,200 tons of fishing
output. Mini-type motorboat has been turned to high-powered iron and steel
fishing vessel. Modern equipment such as fish finder, satellite navigation
and hemisphere intercom is widely adopted.
New technologies such as a ship with multi-nets
or a ship with multi-tools, and small-scale energy conservation operation,
semi-purse net quick trawl with large meshes and trunk fishing, etc are
widely used. The fishing vessels not only conduct operations in
continental sea in Mindong, Minzhong and Zhejiang fisheries, but also in
open seas and northeastern Fujian and Pendiao fisheries. Aquatic products
not only circulate in Mindong but in the whole country. Processing
industries open up a completely new field. In the year 2000, the
processing output value of aquatic products reached 0.4 billion Yuan and
yellow croakers in Guanjingyang, blood clam in Erdu were chosen as the
twenty brand-new and quality agricultural and sideline products.
Preliminary results were achieved in the construction of markets: In
Fuding, the wholesale market of aquatic product for border trade has been
accomplished with monthly volume of business of more than 1,000 tons and
volume of trade of more than 1,000million Yuan. Laminaria wholesale market
in Guxi in Ningde trades with Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui etc. with annual
sales volume of several thousand tons. In Xiapu, 50,000,000 Yuan was
invested to construct the central market of Mindong aquatic product and
the first-stage project has already started.
Fine processing has already been put on the right track: in Ningde,
more than 40 series of processing products such as ayu, dried small
shrimps, lobster, eel slices, pieces of octopus, laminaria and preserves,
etc which are on sale in and outside Fujian Province. Circulation network
has been expanded to inland from coastal areas. Micro business has become
nuclear force for the circulation of aquatic products. In the recent years
the strategic plan had been put into force, which put stress on yellow
croaker and make efforts to exploit market outside Fujian Province.Yellow
croakers in Mingdong sell well on markets in Hong Kong, Taiwan, South
Korea and America, etc. with sales volume of more than 10,000 tons. In
Shanghai, there are now more than 100
aquatic products dealers and “Ningde
Chamber of Commerce of Aquatic Products in Shanghai" has been set up
which helps the sale of brand-name and quality aquatic products. In
Shanghai, sales volume of yellow croaker alone has reached several
thousand tons.
Since the founding of new China in 1949, by painstaking efforts of
aquatic scientific and technical workers in Mindong, breakthrough has been
made one after another. Both the success of sea farming of laminaria to
the south in 1958 and artificial plant growth of ayu in 1998 greatly
improved the development of aquatic products. The results that take the
lead in the country at present are total artificial breeding and
cultivation of yellow croaker and artificial plant growth of Pacific
oysters. The artificial breeding of ayu that takes the lead in Fujian
province is artificial breeding of relevant sea grass and snake headed
fish and red-finned oriented dolphins, etc. Especially the breakthrough in
the artificial breeding of yellow croaker was of momentous significance.
In 1985, Ningde Aquatic Products Bureau took on the responsibility of the
key research projects of the 7th “Five
Year Plan" __________ the artificial culture of yellow croaker and
the technical research of the breeding. In 1987, success was made in
parent fish rearing. In 1990, there was more than 1 million fry rearing
.In 1996, the experiment passed the test by the experts in the Ministry of
Agriculture with technical achievements taking the lead in the world and
was awarded the third prize of science and technology progress by the
Ministry of Agriculture that laid a solid technical foundation for the
leading industry of yellow croaker in Mindong. In 1998, the Guanjingyang,a
breeding station of yellow croakers, which was the first national standard
breeding station of seawater fish, was established by the Ministry of
Agriculture. In October 1998, the Internet website of “Chinese
Aquatic Resources Message" set up by Mindong Jinding Aquatic Research
Institute was wired in Ningde and became the first in China.
