An Introduction to Zhangzhou
Zhangzhou, the home of flowers and fruits, is
located in the southeast of Fujian Province.It has under its jurisdiction 2 districts, 1
city and 8 counties, with a total land area of 12.6 thousand sq.kms, a sea area of 18.6
thousand sq.kms and a coastline of 680 kms.
Zhangzhou possesses several advantages in abundant resources, a subtropical monsoon
climate, numerous compatriots in Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macao, and earlier in opening to
the outside world. The city is one of the most flourishing regions for her unique
agriculture. Zhangzhou was approved to be State's Export-oriented Agricultural
Demonstrational Area, and the Experimental Area (Zhangzhou) for Agricultural Cooperation
Between Two Sides of the Taiwan Straits. With picturesque scenery and numerous historic
sites, Zhangzhou, a city famous for a long history and colorful culture, is an ideal place

Zhangzhou is a treasure land of vitality, hope with limitless opportunity of commerce. In
1995, Zhangzhou was approved by the State Council to be a State's Coastal Economic Open
Zone. Now the city has 14 development zones, in which investors enjoy preferential
policies and supports from the government. There has formed an opening-up pattern of
multi-level, poly-function and omnibearing. Zhangzhou gets rapid progress in foreign
trade. In 1997, its imports and exports amount to USD 1 billion. Zhangzhou has established
trade relations with 65 countries and regions. There have been more than 2000 foreign
investment enterprises, the contract volume of which totals over USD 6 billion,and the
actual utilized volume over USD 2 billion. Many famous consortia and transnational
corporations have made investments in Zhangzhou.
The infrastructures have got much more perfect in Zhanzhou. In recent years, Zhangzhou has
spent more than 6 billion RMB in infrastructural construction, and a number of waterworks,
power plants, highways, telecommunication and berths have been established. The shipping
lines have been opened to Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore and Philippines. The national
highways No.324 and No.319 within the boundary of Zhangzhou have got expanded and
reconstructed, Xiamen-Zhangzhou expressway has been put into use and another expressway
from Zhangzhou to Zhaoan has been approved to be built, the eight-lane Yingbin Road in the
city proper and the East Ring Road have been finished and put into use, three electric
transformer stations each with a capacity of 220kv and some waterworks have been built.
The city's tele-communication has already realized the automation of telephone-exchange
programmed control, digital long distance transportation, automation of radio paging, and
the mobile tele-communication network covers the whole city. Now the direct
tele-communication has been opened to nearly 200 countries and regions.
Zhangzhou trys all means to improve the investment environment. The city took the lead in
the province in founding the fees collecting office for foreign enterprises and the office
for handling impeachments of foreign investors,and pursue the system of associated service
and associated examing and approving.In the recent years, several local polices, Like
"Several Speculations on Foreign Enterprises' Impeachment Handling", have been
formulated and implemented to create a much better investment environment for foreign
investors.
